CATCH Initiative

The AONN+ CATCH Initiative is a reporting system to track navigators’ interventions with positive outcomes to further highlight navigation value and efficiency. A “Catch” is considered a navigation win where the navigator caught an issue and intervened to correct it, benefiting the patient and providing the best practice outcome. Navigators utilize these skills in everyday practice, and AONN+ will now shine a light on the effect navigation has on patient care and outcomes.

Example “Catch”

Incident

Navigator followed up with patient post-op and utilized triage skills to determine surgical complication symptoms

Intervention (CATCH)

Recognizing DVT symptoms, the navigator immediately referred the patient to the emergency department and informed the patient’s surgeon

Outcome

Patient found to have blood clot and was treated accordingly in a timely manner, limiting detrimental effects and ultimately saving the patient’s life

Metric Alignment

Timeliness to care, coordination of care

AONN+ members can submit their “Catch” of a patient problem and their positive solution that significantly impacted patient care. Once reviewed by AONN+ Leadership, a CATCH of the Month will be selected to appear in the JONS publication, and a CATCH of the Year will also be selected and presented at the AONN+ Annual Conference.
