STEVENS POINT, WIS – Jessica Engel, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, AOCNP, an oncology nurse practitioner at Marshfield Clinic in Stevens Point, Wis., received the 2014 Oncology Nursing Excellence (ONE) Award on Sept. 20 at the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators’ (AONN+) annual conference in Orlando. Award winners are recommended by their peers for their display of leadership, compassion and commitment to evidence-based practices.
Engel became interested in nursing during her freshman year in college when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. After earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing, she began her career as a nurse practitioner and went on to complete her doctorate of nursing practice. Engel is an active researcher who has co-authored more than 35 peer-reviewed publications. Recently, she began teaching graduate nursing courses at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.
The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) is the largest national specialty organization dedicated to improving patient care and quality of life by defining, enhancing, and promoting the role of oncology nurse and patient navigators. The organization, which has more than 5,000 members, was founded in 2009 to provide a network for all professionals involved and interested in patient navigation and survivorship care services in order to better manage the complexities of the cancer treatment process.
