AONN+ Co-Founder Lillie Shockney Named 2020 Master Educator Among PM360 ELITE 100

Press Releases published on May 7, 2020 in News & Updates

CRANBURY, NJ—The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) is thrilled to announce that Co-Founder Lillie D. Shockney, RN, BS, MAS, HON-ONN-CG, has been named among the 2020 PM360 ELITE 100 in the Master Educators category. Now in its sixth year, the PM360 ELITE (Exceptional • Leaders • Innovators • Transformers • Entrepreneurs) represent the most influential people in the healthcare industry today. The award is presented by PM360, the premier information resource for marketing decision makers in the pharmaceutical, biotech, diagnostics, and medical device sectors.

After spending several years helping to grow navigation programs nationally and internationally, Shockney partnered with The Lynx Group (formerly Center for Excellence Media, LLC) in 2009 to co-found AONN+, thereby providing navigators with the educational and professional support offered by a national organization. Today, AONN+ is nearly 8,900 members strong, has 23 local navigator networks (including 2 international sites), and consistently averages a year-over-year growth of 20%. Shockney is also the author of 20 books and has written more than 350 articles on cancer care. There is even a documentary currently being made about her life and life’s work.

“Through her passionate determination and tireless efforts, Lillie has established a strong foundation for oncology navigation and provided its practitioners with the building blocks for professional growth and development,” says Danelle Johnston, MSN, RN, HON-ONN-CG, OCN, AONN+ Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Initiatives. “I have witnessed her on countless occasions mentoring navigators and providing guidance and encouragement to advance the profession. She is a truly gifted teacher and leader and a most deserving recipient of the PM360 ELITE 100 award.”

Shockney is a two-time breast cancer survivor who has worked tirelessly to improve the care of breast cancer patients globally. As a seasoned oncology nurse and former Director of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Breast Center, she put her own treatment experience to work, counseling patients newly diagnosed with breast cancer. These experiences ultimately led Shockney to recognize the critical role that oncology navigation plays in improving the patient experience, treatment adherence, and overall outcomes. Of note, Shockney is a Professor of Surgery, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is the only nurse in the history of Johns Hopkins to receive this appointment.

The PM360 ELITE awards were established in 2015 to recognize individuals who have made a significant impact on the healthcare industry throughout their careers. More than 500 submissions were received, and nominees were evaluated and selected by the PM360 editorial staff based on their accomplishments; testimonials from their bosses, clients, and colleagues; and supporting evidence that reflects the impact of their efforts. A total of 100 winners were selected across 18 categories, including Creative Directors, Data Miners, Digital Crusaders, Disrupters, Drug Researchers and Developers, Entrepreneurs, Launch Experts, Leaders of the Future, Marketing Teams, Master Educators, Mentors, Patient Advocates, PR Gurus, Sales MVPs, Strategists, Talent Acquisition Leaders, Tech-know Geeks, and Transformational Leaders.

“At a time when the world is being impacted by a healthcare crisis in the COVID-19 pandemic, it is nice to be able to reflect on the extraordinary work those in the life sciences do to discover, develop, and promote life-saving treatments,” says Anna Stashower, CEO and Publisher of PM360. “Our ELITE winners epitomize the very best of our industry. We are incredibly thankful for everything they do and proud to honor all of their achievements.”

The winners were profiled in PM360’s May 2020 issue. You can read their profiles online at https://www.pm360online.com/the-2020-pm360-elite-100.
