Thank you to Linda Burhansstipanov for sharing the timely webinar, “Dispelling the Myths and Rumors of the New Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)” to the AONN+ members on addressing the health literacy needs in our communities with information on COVID-19.

Although the stats have changed since it was developed in February 2020, the information and recommendations are current toward a more culturally tailored outreach for those oncology navigators working on the front line in the communities. It has information for ALL nurse and patient navigators that are seen in the community as a medical contact person, especially for those whose family members, patients, neighbors, and friends may not have a thorough understanding of this disease on a "community level" and may succumb to distorted propaganda, myths, and rumors, as well as scams, due to two key barriers, i.e. information and communication. The webinar touches on racism and stigma and the need to know how to reach some folks who may not have the information communicated in a way that is easily understood - which could lead to myths, rumors and conspiracy theories.

The information was developed by Venus Ginés, M.A. P/CHWI, a Texas State Certified Instructor for Promotores/CHWs. Please view the information as an individual, in a group setting such as an LNN meeting or a navigator staff meeting.

You will need to register, and Community Health Workers can get continuing education credit.
