Elaine Sein, BSN, RN

Elaine Sein has been an oncology nurse for more than 40 years. She received her diploma from Thomas Jefferson University School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA, and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from La Salle University in Philadelphia.
Elaine is a consultant for navigation program development. She is retired from the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, where she served as Senior Project Manager with the Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners program. She served as a consultant to Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner institutions to assist with clinical operations development, research, educational needs, and quality improvement of their oncology product line. Her main areas of expertise include multidisciplinary disease management program development with a special focus on the role of navigation in cancer care coordination. She has held quarterly meetings for nurse navigators from Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner institutions for more than 12 years for role development, sharing of best practices, and networking. The Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners Nurse Navigator group has held a conference for breast program development, authored a navigation manual for nurses new to the role of breast navigation, and developed a multi-institution research project in collaboration with Fox Chase Cancer Center, Measuring Quality Improvement in Breast Cancer Care at Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner Institutions. This research project was presented at the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) Annual Conference in 2012 and received an original research award. It was also presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology first Quality Care Summit in 2012.
She is a member of the AONN+ Leadership Council and co-chairs the Evidence into Practice Committee. She is co–project leader on the AONN+ Evidence-Based Standardized Navigation Metrics project, which was published in February 2017. She has lectured regionally and nationally on the role that clinical navigation plays in the oncology patient care continuum and has co-authored an orientation manual for breast care navigators as well as a new chapter in the second edition of the ONS Breast Cancer Site-Specific Series on Building Breast Centers of Excellence Through Care Coordination and Patient Navigation.
