CRANBURY, New Jersey, May 22, 2018 — The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+), the only national professional organization for navigation professionals, is announcing today the release of the new book, Team-Based Oncology Care: The Pivotal Role of Oncology Navigation. The book discusses how effective navigation requires a team approach to cancer care and should never be considered an “add-on” resource or service for optimal patient experience.

Featuring the expertise of AONN+ leadership and members, 90% of whom are oncology nurse navigators, and edited by Lillie D. Shockney, RN, BS, MAS, ONN-CG, Team-Based Oncology Care: The Pivotal Role of Oncology Navigation talks to the importance of a multifaceted approach involving various concerned professionals and individuals, and key points for cancer centers to develop and implement effective oncology navigation programs.

“Oncology navigation is a growing field. Navigators as well as the leadership within a cancer facility has struggled with issues associated with building an effective navigation program. This textbook addresses the repetitive questions the AONN+ leadership have been asked as institutions work on developing a new navigation program or strive to improve the program they currently have in place,” said Lillie D. Shockney, who, in addition to her role as Program Director and Co-Founder of AONN+, is the Administrative Director of the Johns Hopkins Breast Cancer Center and Co-Founder of the Johns Hopkins Managing Cancer at Work program.

Team-Based Oncology Care: The Pivotal Role of Oncology Navigation is a comprehensive book that provides practical insights into applying the information presented to the real world. It offers a guide for cancer centers needing to develop and implement an oncology navigation program, understand and meet the accreditation standards of the Commission on Cancer, and demonstrate the value of navigation programs with measurable metrics, including patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes.

Published by Springer, global publisher of science, technology, and medicine materials, which serves and supports the research community, Team-Based Oncology Care: The Pivotal Role of Oncology Navigation is now available for purchase in hardcover or e-book on Springer Shop.
